Two hundred years after the end of the Inquisition, Portugal's Jewish communities are entering a renaissance not seen for centuries. Before the Inquisition, Jews were a part of the cultural fabric of the country. Portugal does not have a modern history of antisemitism.
Today, Jews are moving to Portugal from France, Brazil, the United States, Israel, and other countries. They are joining a population of Portuguese born Jews whose families lived in a tolerant society for more than a century. This book profiles the new and emerging Jewish communities across the country.
